Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
(Ephesians 5:1–2, ESV)

Be an Imitator of God

I like to sing and take voice lessons from a very talented voice teacher.  One of the techniques that really works for me to learn new techniques is imitating her when she demonstrates what she wants me to do.  Little children do this all the time—they watch those around them and copy what they are doing.  I was recently send a UTube video on a toddler who appears to be no more than 18 months old doing CPR on a manikin.  She obviously had watched someone do the compression and give the breaths and she was mimicing them perfectly.

As adults we are still imitators.  Many people today imitate what they see on TV, in movies, or in books and magazines.  Scripture tells us that we are to be God imitators.  If you don’t have the success that you want in your life today, may I humbly ask, “Who are you imitating?”

Instead of spending time looking at the world, focus on Jesus.  Scripture tells us, “By beholding we become changed.”  Spend time reading and pondering God’s word and you will find that your focus and desires will change.  One of my favorite promises is Ps. 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

Let’s become God imitators and delight ourselves in the things He enjoys and we will find success following us around.
