What do you have in your hand?
Exodus 4:2 “The Lord said to him, ‘What is that you have in your hand?’ And Moses said, ‘A rod.’”
In the book of Exodus God appears to Moses to tell him that God wants him to lead the Isrealites out of slavery in Egypt to the promised land. Moses had been wandering around the desert for 40 years berating himself for mistakes he had made forty years ago and certainly didn’t feel capable of leading anyone, let alone a bunch of slaves our of captivity to freedom. He tells God this and God responds by asking Moses a question. “What’s in your hand, Moses?”
Basically, God responds to Moses’ excuses by saying to him, “Stop telling me what you don’t have and can’t do, and tell me what you do have. What’s

Little by Little
Col. 1: 10-11 You may live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.
I am looking out my office window at Douglas fir trees that are over 200 feet tall. They are dark green, stately, and graceful. The Douglas fir tree has relatively small cones that are full of small seeds. Each one of these huge trees outside my window grew from one small seed. This is how God works. He takes the small and then He grows it big.
When the Israelites were preparing to enter the promised land God gave them a ...

“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” Mark 9:23 NLT
Jesus tells us in this verse that all things are possible, “if a person believes”. Note he doesn’t say if you come up with a great plan and work really hard, or if you think about it over and over and try to use your power to make it happen.
Every one of us has something in our lives that we would like to see change for the better—desiring change is normal part of a healthy person’s life. However, the truth is you really can’t change most of your circumstances or yourself without God’s help, but with God’s help all things ...

Worry is like a rocking chair, back and forth you go, but you never go anywhere. You're constantly in motion and busy but you don't accomplish anything or get anywhere. In fact, if you keep doing it for too long you will wear out!
Trusting God allows us to enter His rest--a place of peace where we are able to enjoy life while we are waiting for God to solve our problems. He cares for us; He has promised that He will solve our problems and meet all our needs. (Phil 4:19). We have a part to play and that is we are to demonstrate our faith in Him by not worrying and choosing to not keep thinking about all of our problems and needs.
Now I realized that it much easier to say this than to do it. However, I can ...

You Can Do it!!
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Life sometimes puts a lot of people and situations in our path that say, “You can’t”. This morning I want to say to you, “You can”. I believe that miracles come in “cans”—our belief and trust that we can do whatever we need to do through Christ, Who is our strength.
God believes in you and I believe in you. Now it’s time for you to put your trust in God’s promise and allow Him to plant in you and grow in you a belief in you. Not the old you, but the new you in Christ. 2 Cor. 5:17 says, “Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new ...

Wake Up to the Abundant Life!
In the book of Joel in the Bible, God tells His people to wake up. This is in the midst of a serious time of trouble and devastation for them. God says, “Wake Up!” He tells them to “Repent”. Repent means to turn around or turn away from. So often when things aren’t working out the way we want, we get down and start talking about all our troubles to anyone who will listen. Instead if we would turn from looking at our troubles and focus on God and all of the good things He has promised us, we would find that our situation would begin to change.
Our Creator God has given us an owner’s manual, the Bible, that tells us how to live ...

In Matthew 13 Jesus told a parable about a farmer sowing some seeds. Some of the seeds grew and prospered and others did not. In this parable some of the seeds landed on thorny ground and sprouted but were unable to grow good roots and so they died. In this story Jesus tells us that the thorns are the cares of this world. When we are full of worry and cares it can choke out the fruitfulness of your life and cause us to stagnate and become unproductive.
Every day if we are following God and being obedient, God throws seeds of blessing into our lives. How are we receiving these seeds of blessing, joy, hope, life, and provision? Are we allowing the cares of this world to choke out our spiritual life?

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
(Ephesians 5:1–2, ESV)
Be an Imitator of God
I like to sing and take voice lessons from a very talented voice teacher. One of the techniques that really works for me to learn new techniques is imitating her when she demonstrates what she wants me to do. Little children do this all the time—they watch those around them and copy what they are doing. I was recently send a UTube video on a toddler who appears to be no more than 18 months old doing CPR on a manikin. She obviously had watched someone do the compression and give the breaths and ...

“Until now you have not asked anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”
I love this promise that Jesus gave us. I have proved it over and over to be true. When I have put all of my effort into a situation and there is still no resolution, time and again I have turned to this promise. Going to God the Father and asking for help in the name of His son, Jesus, and then thanking Him for the help that I know is on the way has proven time and again to be a winning solution. He doesn’t always answer as fast as I want Him to or in the way that I expect, but I have found He always comes through for me. In this same talk Jesus said, “I have ...

The Bible tells us that when God shows you your enemies and gives them over to you, then you must utterly “destroy them”. (See Deuteronomy 7:1-2) But I have found that it is important to realize that we cannot triumph over and destroy our spiritual enemies such as anger, bitterness, lack of self- control, gluttony, selfishness, bitterness, and many others all at the same time, or instantly.
God deals with issues in our lives one at a time. He plants in us the awareness of the need for change and the desire to change, (see Phil. 2:13) and then gives us the power to change. However, God works in us as we allow Him to work at His own pace. This requires patience on our part. If you try to......
